  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 package pie crusts
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, then add apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until apples are tender.
  3. Roll out the pie crusts and place one in a pie dish, filling it with the apple mixture.
  4. Cover with the second crust, cut slits on top for steam, and bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the custard by heating milk in a saucepan until warm. In a bowl, mix sugar and cornstarch, then add yolks and warm milk.
  6. Dissolve the mixture back in the saucepan, stirring continuously until thickened. Add vanilla extract and cool.
  7. Serve the pie warm with a drizzle of the custard.
