- 4 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 package pie crusts
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, then add apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until apples are tender.
- Roll out the pie crusts and place one in a pie dish, filling it with the apple mixture.
- Cover with the second crust, cut slits on top for steam, and bake for 45 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the custard by heating milk in a saucepan until warm. In a bowl, mix sugar and cornstarch, then add yolks and warm milk.
- Dissolve the mixture back in the saucepan, stirring continuously until thickened. Add vanilla extract and cool.
