- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg (beaten for egg wash)

- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the flour and salt until combined, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Dissolve baking soda in 4 cups of water in a large pot and bring to a boil.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Boil each ball for about 30 seconds and then place on the baking sheet.
