- 1 whole chicken
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil and add the whole chicken.
- Cook the chicken until fully cooked, about 30-40 minutes, then remove and set aside to cool.
- Add the chopped onion, sliced carrots, and celery to the broth and cook until tender.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the milk to the flour mixture to form a dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the boiling broth. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, shred the chicken and add it back to the pot before serving.
